Hello! I’m Max Savage Levenson, a journalist in Missoula, Montana.

I run the long-form Montana politics interview newsletter Big Sky Chat House, write about politics and pop culture and produce the climate policy podcast “Political Climate.”

I’ve worked as a freelance reporter and audio producer for a decade. I received my Masters Degree from the UC Berkeley School of Journalism in 2015. Here are a few of the areas I cover and projects I’ve managed:

Big Sky Chat House

Since 2022, I have published Big Sky Chat House, a regular long-form interview newsletter with movers and shakers across Montana, with an emphasis on lawmakers and influential political activists.

I produce the bi-weekly podcast “Political Climate,” a project of Latitude Media and Boundary Stone Partners. The show offers a behind-the-scenes and truly bipartisan look at the climate and energy policy landscape in DC and beyond.

I write regularly about Montana politics and pop culture. My work has appeared in outlets including Pitchfork, Bandcamp Daily, NPR Music, Montana Free Press and The Pulp (Missoula).

After interning at NPR’s “All Songs Considered,” I hosted and produced the “Listen In” music interview podcast for KQED in San Francisco. I’ve reported and produced radio segments for KQED’s “The California Report,” and produced podcasts for clients including Re/Code, San Francisco Chronicle and GLG.
